Throughout this full-day private tour, we will visit some of the historic places where the Kingdom of Aragon took shape. History, art and nature in the Aragonese Pyrenees.
Under a crag in the middle of the forest, we will find the Monastery of “San Juan de la Peña”, one of the oldest and most beautiful Romanesque monasteries in Spain, thanks to its gorgeous cloisters with more than 15 historiated capitals.
We will visit “Santa Cruz de la Seros”, a charming Pyrenean village where was established one of the most important women’s monasteries in Northern Spain. The daughters of the Aragonese nobility were educated here, surrounded by beautiful mountain landscapes.
The next stop will be Jaca. This town located close to the Pyrenees is proud of having been the first capital of Aragon. Walking through its beautiful historic centre, we will discover the most emblematic monuments and we will arrive in one of the best restaurants in Jaca, where you will taste the traditional gastronomy with a touch of modern.
After having visited Jaca, we will continue towards the hermitage of “San Adrian de Sasabe”, an enigmatic Romanesque temple located in the middle of the Aragonese Pyrenees, close to the French border. This church was the core of an ancient monastery which was established in the 10th century, in order to keep the Christian faith in this territory free of moorish invaders.
